Why your home should look like you (not Pinterest)

Dive into the importance of making your home uniquely you

Pinterest is a wonderful tool for inspiration. It's also responsible for a lot of homes that look exactly the same.

You know what I’m talking about.. the "Live Laugh Love" adjacent gallery wall, the cookie-cutter homes with nothing but different shades of grey or beige, shiplap indoors. None of it is bad exactly. But somewhere between saving 400 inspiration photos and actually looking at and decorating your own home, something gets lost and you can’t quite figure out what it is. It’s the personality. The character.

Here's what I've come to believe after years of obsessing over interiors: the most beautiful homes are the ones that couldn't belong to anyone else. They have quirks. They have a slightly unexpected color on the wall or a chair that doesn't quite "match" but somehow makes the whole room work. They have pieces with stories. A grandmother's mirror, a painting picked up at a local gallery, a rug from a trip abroad.

That kind of home doesn't just happen by following a trend. It happens by paying attention to what you actually love and being brave enough to go with it even if it's not what everyone else is doing.

Mid Century Modern design taught me a lot about this. At its core, MCM is about intention. Choosing pieces that are beautiful and functional, that feel warm and human rather than cool and performative. It's a style rooted in the idea that good design should be for everyone, not just people with unlimited budgets or architecture degrees.

So when you're decorating, ask yourself: does this feel like me? Not "is this on trend" or "will people think this looks good." Does it feel like you?

That's the only question that matters.
